What is a SmartWay Transport Partner?
EPA’s SmartWay program helps companies advance supply chain sustainability by measuring, benchmarking, and improving freight transportation efficiency. It essentially aims at carbon footprint reduction This voluntary program provides a comprehensive and well-recognized system for tracking, documenting, and sharing information about fuel use and freight emissions across supply chains. It helps companies identify and select more efficient freight carriers, transport modes, equipment, and operational strategies to improve supply chain sustainability and lower costs from goods movement. The program also supports global energy security and offsets environmental risk for companies and countries while it reduces freight transportation-related emissions by accelerating the use of advanced fuel-saving technologies. SmartWay is supported by major transportation industry associations, environmental groups, state and local governments, international agencies, and the corporate community. Coldliner Services is a logistics/multimodal partner in SmartWay’s EPA region 5.
The importance of being a SmartWay Transport Partner
According to the EPA, since 2004, SmartWay Partners have avoided emitting 143 million tons of CO2, 2.7 million tons of nitrogen oxides, and 112,000 tons of particulate matter. Partners have also saved 335 million barrels of oil and over $44 billion in fuel costs – equivalent to eliminating annual energy use in over 21 million homes. The SmartWay brand is a symbol of sustainable freight transportation. SmartWay and its partners are widely recognized for their leadership in moving goods using less fuel, more efficiently, and with a reduced environmental footprint.
